Demonstrated Recent Experience

US-based private equity firm – sports M&A

Acting for a US ownership group on their investment into the 'Brisbane Bullets' National Basketball League (NBL) franchise from the NBL. (Work completed while employed at DWF Australia)

New South Wales Rugby League Ltd – general sports law

Advising the governing body of Rugby League in NSW & the ACT on various

tribunal, governance, competition, and privacy issues. I have acted as Judiciary

Counsel, re-drafted the standard Player Contracts, drafted the League’s ‘Working

with Children’ policy, incorporated a new district junior rugby league body, and

advised on an esports project. (Some work completed while employed at DWF Australia)

Basketball Australia – sports disputes

Advised the national governing body of basketball in Australia on submissions to

the international sporting federation, FIBA, in relation to charges resulting form the

‘Basket Brawl’ incident in a World Cup Qualifier game held in Manilla, Philippines

in July 2018. Charges included rule violations, player misconduct, and

integrity/bringing the game into disrepute. (Work completed while employed at DWF Australia)

State Sporting Organisations – tribunals, governance, and integrity

Acting as an independent tribunal president for Swimming NSW on a member

protection matter against a coach in regional NSW. Advising Hockey NSW on a

member protection matter on appeal regarding a regional club officer. Advising

Women’s’ Bowls NSW on governance, gender policies, and a member dispute.

National Sporting Organisation

Consulting to a NSO on a research project in relation to their IP Licensing strategy.

​

Athletes

Acting for individual athletes as a Player Manager and Athlete Representative on playing opportunities, player contracts, brand sponsorships and endorsements, and deal negotiations.

Brands and Rights Holders

Brand and Product Management experience working in global brands in the tourism and hospitality, logistics, and automotive sectors on sports sponsorships and athlete endorsements.
